Petronor will install a 2.5 MW electrolyzer manufactured by SENER and John Cockerill
30/09/2021 (Spain)Petronor will have a 2.5-MW electrolyzer in the second half of 2022, which will allow it to generate the first renewable hydrogen in the Basque Country, that will supply the Basque Hydrogen Corridor.
This first electrolyzer, manufactured by SENER and John Cockerill, will go into operation as work is completed on the Ezkerraldea-Meatzaldea Technology Park, located in the municipality of Abanto Zierbena, and the first renewable hydrogen it produces will be supplied to the Energy Intelligence Center, and to the Petronor headquarters, which will be located in the park itself.
Besides, this renewable hydrogen will also be used in the first buses and light vehicles of the park's own mobility logistics platform, which will feature the first hydrogen station in the Basque Country. Promoting all this are EVE and Repsol.
The green energy to be consumed by the electrolyzer to generate the renewable hydrogen will be supplied by Repsol. Likewise, the pipelines from the refinery to the Ezkerraldea-Meatzaldea Technology Park will be built by Nortegas.
The start-up of this electrolyzer, as well as the infrastructure required for the production and distribution of renewable hydrogen, will require an investment of 8.9 million euros.
This is a project within the Basque Hydrogen Corridor, BH2C, which aims to contribute to the change of energy and economic model to advance in the decarbonization of strategic sectors such as energy, mobility, industry and services.
