SENER participates under a turnkey contract for a gas fired, combined heat and power plant for Uniper on its existing Power Plant site in Scholven/Gelsenkirchen (Germany) as part of a Joint Venture (78% SENER and 22% MMEC Mannesmann GmbH).

Among the main components to be supplied are:

  • two gas turbine SIEMENS STG-800 and generator sets,
  • two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs),
  • a steam turbine and generator set,
  •  a direct-fired boiler.

In addition, as part of the scope of the contract, SENER and MMEC will be responsible for designing, supplying, installing, testing and commissioning the main components, as well as the associated equipment and services required (electrical equipment, instrumentation and control system, civil works, balance of plant, project management services). It is scheduled that construction works of the new CHP plant will begin already in 2020.

The plant is part of Uniper's strategy to reduce coal consumption, as the units being built are intended to replace part of the units in operation in the Scholven Thermal Power Plant in the short term, and to eliminate coal as fuel in said power plant in the medium term.
