SENER has completed the work under a turnkey contract for the EPC joint venture TSLNG (50% SENER, 50% Techint). As well as leading the consortium, SENER carried out all the engineering, procurement and commissioning work.
The full scope of the project included the design, procurement, construction, assembly and commissioning of all the equipment for a second jetty at the Fluxys LNG plant in Zeebrugge, as well as its connection to the existing LNG terminal, to increase its loading and unloading capacity.
The project represented a significant challenge given the strict local Belgian requirements regarding safety, design, and civil, electrical, and above all mechanical engineering.
The final solution for routing and connection with the existing terminal significantly improved the engineering of the client’s original proposal, offering greater simplicity from a legal point of view and in terms of implementation.
The new facility is able to support loading and unloading operations for LNG carriers with a wide range of capacities from 2,000 m3 up to 217,000 m3. It is capable of reaching flow rates of 14,000 m3/h for large ships and 1,500 m3/h for small ships via its special loading arms.
The versatility of this second jetty allows the end client Fluxys to refill small ships and tankers for ship-to-ship transfers, giving the firm a competitive advantage in the North Sea, where strict environmental regulations make the use of LNG fuel practically compulsory.
