The HE54 heliostat has been designed and patented by SENER, as an improvement of the previous heliostat, the HE35, developed and successfully installed by SENER in the NOORo III solar field with its 7,400 HE54 heliostats, and also in the Gemasolar CSP tower plant –a groundbreaking development that was the first commercial plant in the world with a central tower and molten salt receiver configuration.
Compared to the previous HE35 heliosat, the HE54 features certain improvements, such as:
- Greater reflective surface: 178.5 sqm as opposed to 115.7 sqm.
- Highly precise solar hydraulic tracker system that uses the SENER group’s space technology.
The new heliostat allows a global reduction in the solar field total cost, as size has been optimised from the perspective of features and manufacture. In fact, the big size of the HE54 has required from SENER to redesign most of the components of the heliostat: the concrete pedestal, the high precision hydraulic mechanism, its spars, taylor maid for a 100 % automatized manufacture that allows the production of series, and a new facet.
